Disconnecting to Reconnect
Life is full of pulls to constantly stay plugged in, whether it be on our phones, watching the news or parked in front of our computers. Scrolling, researching, and being drawn into our devices keeps us in a place of “future thinking”. Gosh, no wonder there is so much anxiety, frustration and fear based people out there! It’s so exhausting!
Yet the earth is quietly calling our souls to reconnect with Source! Our souls crave a deep connection in the quiet places. It is one of the best places to hear “our truth”. There are many benefits to reconnecting with nature besides hearing our soul truth.
It improves our overall wellbeing by reducing the physiological symptoms of stress in our bodies. We can feel more grounded and centered in nature, allowing us to tap into our creative mind! By being present, we also experience a heightened awareness of our senses! Smell, sound, sight and touch become more magical! Have you noticed how much better food and coffee taste when you’re outdoors? It allows us to disconnect from our intellect so we can reconnect with our own innate JOY!
There is also some evidence that exposure to nature impacts the brain. Being in natural beauty activates specific reward circuits in the brain associated with dopamine release that give us a sense of purpose, happiness, and energy to pursue our goals.
I have a special place in nature I go to in order to become more clear when I feel confused about anything in my life. While sitting on my favorite bench by the ocean, surrounded by the oak tree that drapes itself around me in Goward Todd Inlet, I can hear my soul self. It is a place where I can actually tap into my inner knowings. It doesn’t take very long to drop into my heart and feel gratitude for the earth and water and become present of the mystical surroundings. Ever so sweetly and softly I begin to hear that small still voice. “Welcome back dear one…. I have been waiting for you to come home to yourself - you have all of the answers within. Let’s begin to unravel, untether and find your truth.”
If you are grappling with finding your own answers or seeking outside of yourself to find them, I strongly encourage you to find a sacred space in nature. Start taking “mindful walks”. Your special place awaits you and there you will find the messages you have been longing to hear. They will resonate deeply. In nature, you have the opportunity to find the path back home to you.

“The core of your true self is never lost.
Let go of all the pretending
and the becoming you’ve done just to belong.
Curl up with your rawness and come home.
You don’t have to find yourself;
you just have to let yourself in.”
– D. Antoinette Foy
